THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE JURY OF THE

XXVI CATHOLIC INTERNATIONAL FILM

AND MULTIMEDIA FESTIVAL „NIEPOKALANÓW 2011”

In the days from June 1 up to 5 June 2011, the XXVI International Catholic Film and Multimedia Festival "Niepokalanow 2011 " was held, under the personal patronage of His Eminence, the Primate of Poland, Cardinal Jozef Glemp and the Honorary Committee.

170 films,  TV and radio programs from 24 countries around the world: England, Armenia, Australia, Belarus, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Kenya, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Polish, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine, USA, Hungary, Italy and Zambia were submitted to the Festival. The selection chose the different categories for awards: feature films - 5 films, documentary films - 15 films, television programs - 4 programs, educational and catechetical programs - 6 programs, radio programs - 7 programs, multimedia programs - 3 programs Websites – 4.

Showing the formation of the film about the blessed Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko, in which the young director attempts to verify his legend and popularity. Showing Fr. Jerzy in a simple way gives courage to follow his heroic deeds: lack of compromise for evil and lies, as well as to conquering evil with good.

For showing the true face of contemporary Columbia, where Catholic faith and admitting to it by those in power leads to elimination of criminal Marxist drug mafias. Politicians’ true faith gives us hope to reform the public life in Poland.

For showing a full life, of rich in ethnical and religious diversity Polish towns in Wołyń, in which hate crimes, conflagration and death come into being.  A touching report on people who survived the massacre and whose feelings are illustrated by beautiful music of one of the survivors.

Being a one and a half year old child, he was abandoned in an orphanage. He is deprived of parental love. Thanks to the "friendly hands" of other people, he experiences the living presence of Christ, which "pushes" him to hold useful lessons for the "useless" youth. Creating "Aim high" society, the young therapist teaches that there’s not necessary to do anything, but people can do something good together. And it restores a once lost sense of family "warmth and security." This young, 27 year-old, compensates the absence of parents in his life with a relationship with God.

Beautiful depiction of a priest who discovered the deepest sense of his vocation in total dedication to the service of other people, especially those deprived of sense of hearing and speech, such needed to lead a "normal life ". Fr. Ryszard was brought up at home to show deep respect for the weaker people. Even doing small, inconspicuous "things", brings joy and satisfaction.

Specific "peregrination" of the cross carved in the wood , which heals and transforms a physically ill person, and the extraordinary presence of that cross in hands of John Paul II, during the Stations of the Cross in Vatican, year 2005. It is an experience of the presence of the Holy Cross, from which power of faith and trust flows, until the last moments of his life, accompanying him in the physical weakness and infirmity.

Time - a symbol of the tragic flight of the 10^th of April, 2010, in reflection of the closest collaborators of the President's Office, a sociologist, and Kaczynski family's neighbours. Who knows, maybe the eve of Divine Mercy Sunday did not become a happy day for the participants of this unfortunate flight. This statement of a nun, leads to even greater trust in God, the Lord of human salvation, weaknesses and infirmity.

This is how Indians of Paraguay call a Polish Jesuit, Fr Piotr Nawrot, who, as an educated musician, passionately discovers Jesuit "treasures" of old Baroque and Renaissance music. These are priceless manuscripts, carefully preserved by the Latin American peasants, and rediscovered by Father Piotr on the Bolivian Old Music Festival. Father Piotr, wants to convince us of the necessary presence of music, which has to remain in the service of faith, and lead to inner transformation of man.
